Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
