The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a major honors show nears, one notices an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
